Narendra Modi loved swimming. He would swim for hours in the crocodile infested Sharmishtha lake. In the centre of the lake was an old temple on which fluttered a flag. On a certain day each year, the flag had to be changed. One day, there was a terrible downpour of rain. There was heavy flooding. That was the designated day to change the temple flag. None other than, the twelve year old little Narendra came forward and bravely said, “I will change the temple flag.” The elders of the village tried to dissuade him, but Narendra did not budge. He jumped into the lake, swam towards the temple, changed the flag and with the same speed swam back to the shore. The villagers were all praises for Narendra and patted him.
